MEDITATION
Look at the trees, they are in constant meditation: standing there in serene contemplation, swinging gently, caressed by the wind. Let’s all be like trees! Simply staying still and silent, observing what is happening, carrying no judgements. That’s what the ancient yogini and yogi used to do in India a very long time ago. And that’s what meditation is all about. Easier said than done… Back then people’s lives weren’t so busy and full of technological gadgets! But it’s not only today’s problem. The nature of the mind is to wander from one place to another: without stopping all day, without rest! However, due to the lack of awareness of this continuous process, emotional distress and confusion can arise.
Kids and young people’s minds are not an exception and are often overwhelmed. Mind is like a detuned radio: a background noise, a constant chattering. Meditation helps to tune in to the right frequency, cooling down the waves of thoughts.
Putting all the attention on natural breathing, practicing active listening and concentrating on a particular sense. Just observing without choosing or imposing directions. That’s Mindfulness: to hear, to feel, to see, to smell, to taste, one at time all attentively. Mindful practices are educational and clinical western approaches for the development of emotional balance. They derive from ancient oriental meditation techniques, in particular Vipassana, which means to see things as they really are. Mindfulness exactly like Vipassana, also includes the promotion of gratitude and kindness, for a heartful existence.
